Slept great overnight. Temps in the low 60’s. There was us and two other normal RV’s.
Gayla made coffee and we sat outside at the picnic table. Gayla also did some weaving on her little inkle.
We took the backroads and drove through Wilber, Nebraska. The Czech Capital of the USA. Up to 52,000 people come for their festival every year and it’s a small town.
Eventually we made it to Homestead National Historical Park. We’d been here back in June of 2016 so it’s been 8 years since we’ve been here.
We did a tour the museum exhibits and the outside grounds. I also activated the park with amateur radio. Did a quick 16 contacts.
I then set our course for Washington County State Fishing Lake. Most if not all fishing lakes in Kansas are free camping. This is where we’re decided to set up for our work week.
This lake is definitely off the beaten path and has about 8 camping spots with fire rings and picnic tables and even a decent vault toilet. Big shade trees too.
I also activated this park since it’s among the POTA list of parks. Only 8 successful activators before me. I had 33 total contacts on 5 watts of RF power. Not too bad.
The wind kicked up ferociously here big time. We sat outside for as long as we could stand it before moving to the inside of Clifford.
Hit 90°F again today. Yuck.
