Diesel heater worked great last night.
Woke and turned it on when it was 46° inside of Clifford. It quickly warmed it up.
We slowly got ready to leave camp. Gayla made coffee.
Today we had some sort of a destination in mind.
Made our way through Cheyenne, Wyoming and turned north on I-25.
Quebec 01 Missile Alert Facility State Historic Site.
$16 got us a tour with Sherri a retired teacher that has worked at this site for about 5 years.
She really knows her stuff.
There were two doors 50 feet below the ground. One weighed 30,000 pounds 15 tons and the other one was 16,000 pounds 8 tons.
We did ride in an elevator to the bottom. She said that since it has been in the state’s possession the elevator has stopped twice and people had to climb the 50 foot ladder to get out. Luckily we did not have to do that today.
Afterwards I activated the park and had 20 contacts. Park US-10828.
it was getting towards lunch time and we headed to Chugwater, Wyoming to fuel up and stop at the Chugwater Soda Fountain.
The Chugwater Soda Fountain is the oldest operating in the state of Wyoming.
I ordered the Drifter Burger and a Huckleberry Malt. That Huckleberry Malt was the best tasting malt I’ve ever had. We will definitely stop here when in the area next year.
I pointed Clifford to the north to Wheatland, Wyoming. We drove through both sides of town and found a place to get the dogs some food for the week.
I spotted some free camping on the Campendium Application at Grayrocks Reservoir about 20 miles east of Wheatland.
This place is huge. Plenty of camping in the area. Some of it could be very challenging especially if it’s raining or just after a storm.
We settled in for the night with next to water. Not everyday you can get a waterfront view for free with great weather.
This also happens to be a POTA park too. I am going to activate it tonight.
The first half of the day was planned but the second half was not planned. It’s all part of the experience.
