I had a somewhat restless night sleeping for some reason. Gayla slept good she said. We woke up early and wanted to get on the road moving by 8 AM. Lucky for us we were able to get moving by 7:50 AM on the road.

It was a steep 2 mile decent out of the Robinson Forest in low range on the transfer case.

After making our way back out to hwy 476, we went westbound to Lost Creek, Kentucky at hwy 15. We also had to stop and get some fuel at $3.95 for diesel. That some of the cheapest we’ve seen on this trip since early March when we left. Clifford got an astonishing 9.9 mpg’s, which is not too bad considering the steep climbs we’ve been doing in West Virginia and eastern Kentucky.

While fueling up Gayla decided we needed carbs today. She bought us some sort of tater tot looking things with cheese and bacon in them. We also splurged and had a cinnamon roll. Mmm mmm mmm.

We turned off hwy 15 on to county road 1110 west and it got curvy. Eventually we ended up p on 397 and a major road of hwy 30. We stayed on hwy 30 all the way to London, Kentucky where we stopped to top off our water supply and got groceries for the next few days.

Ended up on I-75 southbound for a bit. Down through Corbin, Kentucky which is the home of Colonel Sanders of KFC.

We’ve been through this area before back in 10-08-2017 when driving from Virginia to Missouri in the Jeep.

Made our way to hwy 92 to Pine Knot, Kentucky. Stayed on 92 till the Yamacraw Bridge. Then took the Yamacraw-Bell Farm Road.

THIS WAS AMAZING DRIVE. Very very curvy and a bit steep at times but well worth it. It went along the Big South Fork National River Recreation Area.

We came to forest road 564 and then turned on to forest road 137.

After 6 miles down forests roads we arrived at Great Meadows Campground Raccoon Loop. Beautiful campground with vault toilets and potable water available from April till October. $10 was well worth this price to camp here next to a creek.

Had some locals come down and sit by the river and swam at ate watermelon. We talk for a bit and asked if I seen any bears yet?! I said nope but I’ll keep an eye out for them. Josh was very nice and informative about the area. He into hunting with Muzzleloaders too.

Gayla did some work on the computer this evening and I did some research on our next few destinations to stop before our work week starts.

155.90 – miles driven today.
