We woke up with excitement of traveling today. Packed up mostly last night before bed time.
Was on the road by 8:00 AM. We traveled on interstate 64 east into Virginia. We stopped at the Virginia welcome center to look around and use the facilities. Had a few people in the parking lot that was commenting on Clifford’s good looks. I did find a nice bicycle map of Virginia with all the trails in it. That was nice.
Back on the road to interstate 81 northbound. That’s where it got busy around Lexington, Virginia. We pulled off around New Market, Virginia to fuel up. Clifford got 11.29 mpg. Not bad for a big fella.
Back on 81 north till hwy 48 near Clary, Virginia. We went west on it to George Washington National Forest for our campsite. Unfortunately the road was closed. So we tried a second campsite in the same forest. Again road is closed. I was done with driving for the day so we found a rest area spot near the George Washington Forest on Squirrel Gap Rd.
Nice big parking area close to the hwy but not too noisy. Had a few locals drive up and by. We’re just outside of Wardensville, West Virginia. That’s right we’re back in West Virginia but barely.
We’ve had a fierce wind all day out of the west. Not good for driving a brick on wheels.
Tomorrow we head in to Maryland to see family for the week.
