We got gathered round and were on the road by 9:10 AM from Hidden Hollow Campground.

We were heading south, that is all we knew at the time.

Navigating through some pretty twisted roads along the border of Ohio and West Virginia got a bit intense.

Our first stop was in Wheeling, West Virginia to fuel up before heading more south. This time we had a destination. We were going to New Martinsville to stock up on some groceries and fill up on water.

After our stop in New Martinsville we headed towards Lewis Wetzel Wildlife Management Area. That road was very very curvy and hilly. The internet was not clear about camping in the wildlife area so we went to check it out. There’s a shooting range and a few trails there. Also a campground. But the campground is closed from January 1st to April 15th.

Time for plan B. Luckily I had scouted out for a backup camp just in case. With absolutely no cellular service whatsoever. I did have coordinates saved and put them in Gaia GPS. All I needed was a direction. It didn’t need to tell me turn by turn navigation.

The road we took out of the Lewis Wetzel Wildlife Management Area was some of the steepest and curviest roads I think I’ve ever been on. Especially driving Clifford on. At one point I did see our own taillights.

Eventually we got back to a main road and had one bar of signal for cellular service to check on how close we really were to our destination. We were only 3.5 miles away. Hallelujah.

Conaway Run Lake Wildlife management Area was where we were headed. We made it here about 3:45 pm. It is only the 2nd time we’ve paid for camping in 67 days spent in Clifford. Not too bad I say. It’s $10 worth it.

Gayla made a great salad and we walked the dogs around the campground for a bit before it rained.

Near Alma, West Virginia.
