We had driven through Mammoth Springs, AR many times. It has always either been too late at night or too early in the morning for anything to be open. A few years ago, we stopped just before dawn and Robert took a few long exposure shots. The morning fog and the dim lighting was pretty creepy yet peaceful at the same time.
We finally were passing through in the middle of the day. It was a perfect time to check out the welcome center and museum. Some of the friendliest people we encountered all day were at the State Park.
After visiting at the welcome center, we walked around the Spring and took pictures. The best thing we encountered was the train museum.
They have perhaps the best maintained little train depot I’ve ever seen. It was like being there in the 1920s. The museum volunteer was so friendly. He took his time with us and explained some things. He opened up the baggage area and caboose to tour.
It’s well worth it to make the stop at Mammoth Spring, AR and take a trip back in time.
