Woke up to 63° inside of Clifford and 57° outside at 5:57 AM in White River, South Dakota.
Headed west on HWY 44 at 7 am central time. It had a great deal of road construction on it for 23 miles. We seen a lot of deer on that hwy.
Ended up going through parts of the Badlands National Park. It was a bumpy road through that area. Seen a lot of prairie dogs.
Made it to Rapid City, South Dakota by 9:30 Mountain Time. Yes we crossed over to mountain time at 7:30 AM. Stopped and stocked up on groceries and fuel before heading to the Black Hills area.
We made our way to a campsite I had found on Campendium app and it didn’t look like much so we pressed on. Ended up at Bear Mountain Lookout Tower at just over 7100 feet. We went up the tower and took several pictures before heading to another campsite I had found on Campendium. It was about 2 hours away but only 57 miles. Had a lot of dirt roads around.
It was a beautiful drive and the temps were great for July.
Went through Lead, South Dakota and turned on a mountain road that took us nowhere near where we needed to be. Somehow we ended up in a backwoods fancy subdivision the back way. Finally had some signal enough to get us to another destination in Spearfish, South Dakota.
By this time it was getting late in the day and we’d been on the road since 6 AM mountain time. I was ready to be done driving for the day.
We pulled into the Spearfish City Campground to spend the night.
I heated up some tri tip steak for dinner and we talked about staying here for our work week. Looks like we’ll be in the city this week working. It’ll be nice to explore around. I haven’t been here since 2006. That was the last time I played a gig here.
