Gayla slept in a bit. I woke up about 7:30 AM. She had one phone call today before we headed out on our travel day.

We started our tourist journey at Fort Buford State Historic Site right next door to where we’ve been staying at.

Wyatt (the fella that did the interpretation) gave us a wealth of information on the history of Fort Buford and Sitting Bull.

It occurred to us that we happened to be in the very room in Fort Buford where Sitting Bull surrendered his rifle to his son Crow Foot and his son surrendered the rifle to Major David Brotherton the commanding officer at Fort Buford.

We also took a tour through the barracks and the rest of the areas around the fort.

It was $5 per person for the tour. The interpreters were very friendly and knowledgeable about the fort and answered any questions we had about it.

Our next tourist stop was about 2 miles away from Fort Buford at Fort Union.

Fort Union was a major place during the fur trade era up until 1867. Up to 25,000 Buffalo robes and up to $100,000 in merchandise traded annually.

Fort Union had a very nice museum and docent that was very informative.

Fort Union is a place worth visiting if you’re in the area for sure.

It was getting late in the day by this time and we needed a place to stay for the night. I found us Trenton Lake Recreation Area. It had electricity and a lake. We want to use the air conditioning to cool off a bit.

We actually went and dipped ourselves in Trenton Lake to cool off and sit in front of the fans for extra bit of coolness.

Gayla did some work on the computer for a bit.

I activated a park with HF radio. Or so I thought. I uploaded 26 contacts and you only need 10 contacts to be activated. When I uploaded them to the website for credit I got an unknown failure on my upload and wasn’t accepted. Oh well I’ll try again.
