Woke up at 4:15 AM. Lucy was stirring around and wanting outside.

Woke up finally at about 6:30 AM. Got around and made coffee and hit the road North.

First stop was in Bowman, North Dakota for some fuel. Clifford got 10.25 mpg’s. Also Gayla picked up some sort of breakfast pizza and coffee. Yes both were tasty.

We continued on north on hwy 85 and just past Amidon, North Dakota I seen a sign for White Butte! It was North Dakota’s highest point. Of course we had to stop and see it.

It took us a little bit to find out how to get there. It is on private land. It’s accessible to the public though.

We did not get to go to the top because of the dogs. We’d have to carry at least two of them. They would not be happy about it either.

After walking around White Butte we got back on 85 north to Belfield, North Dakota to I-94 westbound.

We had to stop at the Painted Canyon Overlook in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

After taking a few tourist photos and filling up on water we headed to the Historic town of Medora, North Dakota. Beautiful town.

It was getting late in the afternoon and I was getting ready to be done driving and at camp.

Gayla guided me to Scoria Pit Dispersed Camping Area. It is located in the Little Missouri National Grasslands. Lots of red dirt and high plains views.

I set up my HF radio station and activated the POTA park US-7485 the Little Missouri National Grasslands. Made contact with my buddy Paul in Ash Grove on the 30 meter band. He was 837 miles away at a bearing of 139°!

The sky started getting hazy so I started packing up my radio gear. Turned to be a major thunderstorm headed this way. We looked at the radar and we were going to be on the very northern edge of it. I did catch some lightning on the big camera. I will have to upload those pictures later.

Then the sun came back out for the most beautiful sunset I’ve seen in a long while. Yes we made the most of it and took plenty of pictures and video.
