We’ve driven by it several times, but today was the day we decided to see what Dinosaur Ridge was all about.  Since it is only a couple of miles from Dakota Ridge RV Park, we decided to bike it.  Oh my goodness, you find out quickly just how out of shape you are while pedaling up some of those hills.  I felt like the Little Train that Could, you know, saying to myself “I think I can…I think I can…”

West Alameda Parkway, or Dinosaur Ridge, is closed to through traffic.  Only foot traffic, bikes and ridge tour buses are allowed.  The road was built years ago as the main route to Red Rocks.  During construction of the road, many dinosaur tracks were discovered in the rock.  The road was used for several years, but then closed to preserve the tracks and other artifacts.  The area has the designation of being a National Natural Landmark.

We stopped in the little gift shop and Robert bought a patch for his collection.  We ended up making an 8 1/2 mile round trip bike ride.  It was certainly good for us to get our blood a pumping and learn new things about the area.  We are glad we went and we recommend it to anyone that will be in the area.
