Copper Run Distillery

We’ve been back in our old stomping grounds of Southwest Missouri now for about a month and a half.  We are enjoying the time with friends and family.  We’ve been going out quite a bit to several local events to get reacquainted with the area since we’ve been gone for about four years.

One such event was going to see some musician friends of ours play at a locally run distillery.  Just a few miles south of Springfield, off the beaten path of HWY 176 is Copper Run Distillery.  What a nice place!  Owner, Jim Blansit has operated the distillery since 2009.  Moonshine and whiskey are made in small batches.  Their tasting room is open seven days a week and on Saturdays a local band is featured.  Tours are given on the hour.

We had such a nice time.  We were so surprised of how busy it was.  It was standing room only to taste their spirits and watch the music.  To getting people to come to a venue off the beaten path brings to mind a new saying, “Make the whiskey and they will come.”  We do have to admit they make one GREAT moonshine margarita.  They also featured other local drinks, like soda made in Branson and beer from Mother’s Brewery of Springfield.  It is nice to see such a great business prospering.

Without the invite from our friend, Chad Graves, playing yesterday with Sugar Thumb we would have never known about such a great place.  Sugar Thumb is made up of Cliffton Boone (guitar), Chad Graves (steel guitar), Jeff Sowards (bass), Jimmy Rea (drums).  They put on a great, old fashioned country show.
