Wasn’t terribly chilly last night. It was 45° inside Clifford. Gayla tuned on the heater when she got up.
We had a soggy overnight with the rain so it was a little slow getting down from the trailhead.
I pointed Clifford back the direction that we camp in from yesterday. Once we got back to where the sign said road closed 4 miles ahead we went the other direction.
This direction quickly became clear it was not the direction I was supposed to be going. It turned muddy and steep and a bit off camber.
Gayla got out and walked ahead to scope things out.
I proceeded to keep going. I made it to a flat area and turned around. We also let the dogs out and took ourselves a break.
Once back on the trail out we stopped and talked to a local rancher on a four wheeler. He said just go slow because it’s a rough road for another 12 miles or so.
We eventually made it out to the main road and put Clifford in high range 2wd.
I pulled into a campground called the Quarter Corner Campground and we collected our thoughts and let the dogs out again.
I did discover that Clifford is missing a nut on the passenger side front shock absorber. Oh well. Zip ties are handy.
I proceeded to go towards Henry’s Fork campground to check it out.
The campgrounds are starting to get full already. People come and drop off the recreational vehicles and leave them for 14 days. They might stay in them a few nights, they might not. But they have claimed their spot.
I took a right out of Henry’s Fork campground and started in on the other side of the road that we were traveling this morning. I wanted to see it coming from a different direction.
I ran in to the same local rancher. This time he was on a horse and his wife and son were on the four wheeler. He said I took the long way around.
So I tuned around and went back towards Henry’s Fork. This time I veered off on another forest road next to Henry’s Fork and it wanted to cross the creek. it was really steep and kinda deep so I called it.
Evidently there was another vehicle that followed us down the forest road.
I turned around and got out and talked to Brian and Steve. They were looking for a way to get to Hoop Lake. We were as well but the road was closed.
I showed them where we were on the map. They forgot their map.
They didn’t cross the creek either. After they turned around we found a little campsite just off the road next to Henry’s Fork.
Gayla had a video call at 3pm local time and I was done driving for the day.
At this place we will have no neighbors either. Always a plus.
After checking on my zip tie fix I found the whole shock mount broke at the weld. Oh well. If something doesn’t break, bend or fall off it’s not an adventure.
